“In the European Union, 95% of the 2050 decarbonisation objectives can be achieved simply through the electrification of transport, buildings and industry”

– Francesco Starace, Enel CEO

Francesco Starace also pointed out that both of these aspects also explain why renewable energies have become so competitive in such a short space of time. At the same time, while energy demand is showing a clear increase globally, electricity demand is growing “at double the pace.” This is therefore good news for the energy industry, and particularly the electricity sector.

In this context, companies bear a great responsibility: to guide the energy transition underway by bringing together business and sustainability. A difficult challenge, but, as Francesco Starace noted when referring to Eurelectric’s 2018 study, “in the European Union, 95% of the 2050 decarbonisation objectives can be achieved simply through the electrification of transport, buildings and industry.

Understanding the evolutive dynamics and recognising their fast pace is therefore a fundamental starting point for being able to develop a business model oriented towards long-term growth in sustainability for all shareholders, as CEO Francesco Starace reiterated when bringing his lecture to a close.
