“We are investing in five African countries in the field of renewable energy, through solar and wind plants that provide energy for the continent’s economic development”
Africa is indeed the continent where the greatest number of people with little or no access to electricity live: “With regard to this, we will work closely with the UN in order to implement Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7, namely ‘Affordable and clean energy’ for everyone,” Starace said. This issue involves 600 million people on the African continent and contributes to rising social inequality, as well as to problems in entering the world of work.
Enel will therefore focus on the development of innovative projects “that help allocate increasingly significant investments in the energy infrastructures of African countries”. For this reason, Francesco Starace observed that the world no longer sees Africa as a distant place, but rather as an important market that requires considerable investment: “The continent’s future development is very dynamic. We believe that Italy can play an important role.”
