Numbers speak for themselves: the boost of electric mobility is a fact and the spread of e-cars is constantly growing across the world. Electric vehicle sales increased by 33% in Europe in the first quarter of 2016. This is undoubtedly due to mature electricity storage technologies and new types of batteries, performant engines, the spread of clean energy sources and the improved sustainable awareness of customers and organisations.

Only 0.01% of vehicles in Italy are electric and charging infrastructure is not sufficiently widespread. However, Italy is a key player in electric mobility development, with university and industries actively involved in both technical and economic research projects.

The study ‘100 Italian E-Mobility Stories’ focusses on big and small companies engaged in the development of electric mobility. The book, promoted by Enel and Symbola Foundation, was launched in Rome on 15 February 2017 by Enel’s Chief Executive Officer and General Manager Francesco Starace and the Symbola’s President Ermete Realacci. The study examines 100 cases of Italian electric mobility excellence, ranging from vehicle design and production to components and implementations. “100 Italian E-Mobility Stories” is above all a tale of talents in Italian companies, which are paving the way for electric and sustainable mobility together with research centres.

Italy is a country of talents, especially in the field of design and manufacture, and the electric mobility sector is not an exception. This collection of stories is our way of celebrating Italian made excellence, as well as to boost the spread of electric vehicles
