Enel takes to the track in New York with Formula E. Francesco Starace, the Group’s Chief Executive Officer, made his way to the United States to celebrate one of the most important objectives in the history of the championship for electric-powered cars. The ePrix took place in the streets of Brooklyn on the 15th and 16th July and was the first zero-emissions race so far. Celebrating the event on the 13th, Francesco Starace—along with Enel Chairperson Patrizia Grieco, the management of Formula E and DHL Express (the official founding and logistics partner), and several championship pilots—sounded the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange.

Francesco Starace said he was proud to be able to take part in such an event. “Enel and Formula E are natural partners as we both share the stimulating opportunities which electric-powered cars, smart cities, and the revolution of renewable energies offer,” he declared, adding that as Formula E, race after race, manages to surpass the limits of technology, every day Enel is also committed to promoting greater electricity distribution as well as complete decarbonisation.
As an Official Power Partner, Enel made available the latest solutions—including technological ones—in the context of smart energy and energy management (solar power, mini-grids, batteries), using them in the installation and fuelling phases of the event. Implemented by the Group in the ePrix, ‘Powering the Future’ is the name of the project, and it focuses on zero emissions: to offset the New York race, the group will adopt "emission-reduction certificates for the 74 MW wind-powered plant in Stipa Maya, Mexico.” Its turbines prevent the emission of over 133 thousand tonnes of CO2 a year, equal to eliminating 26 thousand cars from the streets.
Energy sustainability and e-mobility will also be at the heart of a meeting to take place at the UN where Chief Executive Officer Francesco Starace will speak.
