“I am proud to represent the group as well as the Italian private sector”: Enel’s inclusion in the European High Level Multi-Stakeholder Platform gives Francesco Starace cause for satisfaction. On 10 January, the Enel CEO was in Brussels to participate in the first meeting of the body that was founded to support the European Commission in meeting the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
As the only Italian company selected for the platform, Enel is also one of the two members (out of a total 30) that has been chosen to represent the private sector: an acknowledgement of the group’s commitment to promoting sustainable development strategies aimed at encouraging the energy transition process underway.
The sustainability of the European social and economic model is a key responsibility for all Europeans
Francesco Starace, Enel CEO
“The sustainability of the European social and economic model is a key responsibility for all of us Europeans”, said CEO Francesco Starace, who along with other body members is also tasked with identifying the best practices on a local, regional, national and European level by recording the progress made in the field of sustainability.
It is not by chance that the vast breadth of experience centring around sustainable development was taken into account when forming the working group. In order to consider the issue from all aspects (e.g. regulatory, economic, social and environmental), representatives from non-governmental organisations and civil society have been included in the platform. It is not only a question of environmental protection, but also one of safety, health and quality of life: “We owe it to future generations of the EU and global citizens to show that there is a sustainable path that can lead to growth in all of the world’s societies”, said CEO Starace.
