“Electricity will be the main vehicle for achieving extensive decarbonisation in all sectors, particularly in the transport sector,” reiterated Enel CEO, Francesco Starace, at the 2018 edition of “e-Mobility Revolution”, the electric mobility convention organised by Enel X at the Vallelunga Racing Circuit. At the event, the focus was placed on examining the development of the sector and “intelligent charging solutions” – namely turnkey, modular and scalable solutions designed to further encourage the use of e-mobility – were presented.

This is an objective that also falls within a wider context, stressed Francesco Starace in his speech: “The challenge we are facing is guiding the energy transition,” said the CEO, emphasising that “the e-mobility process is included within the equally fast-moving phenomena of energy consumption’s shift to electricity.” Some data: in Italy, the number of cars registered as plug-in and electrical doubled in the first 8 months of 2018 compared to the same period in 2017, corresponding with the growth recorded globally.
Francesco Starace also pointed out that “the electrical mobility revolution is a ‘revolution underway’, and Italy is starting in an advantageous position as it already has a completely digitalised network.” He then took the time to talk about the National Charging Infrastructure Plan, on the basis of which the Group will install approximately 7,000 charging points by the end of 2020, to then reach 14,000 in 2022: “We have already signed agreements for approximately 4,300 charging infrastructures with the public authorities, but also with industrial and commercial companies, which will allow us to make swift progress to ensure that the electric car becomes a vehicle accessible to everyone.” At the event, Enel also announced the launch of the Enel X e-mobility Hub at Vallelunga, the first centre for the development of technological solutions for electric mobility, created in collaboration with ACI [Italian Automobile Club].
