Francesco Starace has received the prestigious 2019 Global Leadership Award from the University of California, Berkeley. The accolade was recognition of the Enel CEO and General Manager’s commitment over many years to creating and promoting innovation and the use of technology at a global level. Former winners include great political and business leaders, reformers and statesmen who have been responsible for stimulating economic growth nationally and internationally.
“I am honoured to accept this important recognition from the University of Berkeley, which underscores Enel’s commitment to opening our company to innovation,” said Francesco Starace, who is the first Italian and the first representative of the energy sector to receive this award. The CEO believes that the award is “concrete evidence that innovation is essential to effectively introduce sustainability into the corporate strategy”. At Enel “we decided to combine these two factors into what we call Innovability®, which we have fully integrated into our business model and all our operations, with the aim of creating shared value for the company and our stakeholders.”

The event brought together thought leaders from academia and industry to stimulate constructive debate about business, opportunities for growth within the context of societal challenges, and the role of companies in promoting transformation. The theme of the 2019 edition was Opening Up for Managing Business and Societal Challenges.
