The Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) has acknowledged Enel’s worldwide sustainability leadership, an unprecedented milestone in the 17 years in which the Group headed by Francesco Starace has been included in this index. In 2020 Enel achieved a score higher than 90/100 in more than 70% of the criteria. Among these are climate strategy and market opportunities, which are both designed to assess the performance of electric utilities in leading the transition towards a low-carbon energy model. As has been emphasised by CEO and General Manager Francesco Starace on many occasions, this is an area to which the Group has been strongly committed for some time.

Therefore, the results achieved have put Enel in first place in the DJSI Europe for the “Electric Utilities” sector, as well as in second place globally in the overall family of Dow Jones Sustainability Indices for the category. For the Group, this recognition represents “an incentive to keep improving our environmental, social and governance performance,” as noted by the Enel CEO and General Manager.
“Enel’s leadership in renewable energies, network digitalisation and advanced energy solutions aimed at decarbonising other sectors, such as transportation, are some of the main best practices that contributed to this acknowledgement,” said Francesco Starace. By embedding innovation and sustainability into business practices, Enel “is actively leading the transition towards a zero carbon model, protecting the global environment and, at the same time, creating long term value for our stakeholders,” he added. Finally, he thanked all of the Enel Group’s employees, as “it is thanks to them that we have reached this historic milestone.”
