Integrating innovation and sustainability into business models is a principle that Enel has been applying for several years, also thanks to the strong support provided by CEO and General Manager Francesco Starace. Enel's achievements in this area have become a case study, "Enel's Innovability®: Global Open Innovation and Sustainability," which was recently recognized in the "Ethics and Social Responsibility" category at The Case Centre Awards and Competitions 2021.
The study, carried out at the private university INSEAD, analyzes the Group's achievements in the field of "Innovability®" since Francesco Starace started leading the company. It was 2014 when he was appointed to the position of CEO and General Manager: as the study shows, Enel has grown significantly since then, also as a result of the strong commitment to integrating innovation and sustainability into its strategies, as well as to creating value for all its stakeholders. Enel's "Innovability®" approach, as the company calls it, has proved to be fundamental in leading the energy transition.
Furthermore, the case study shows that sustainability and innovation can be considered, for all intents and purposes, two strategic pillars for the Group, as their implementation helped Enel become one of the world's leading integrated electricity and renewable operators. In addition to the "Innovability®" approach, this achievement is also due to the Group's innovation hubs, the use of crowdsourcing platforms, and the investments in digitalization.
“For us, innovation is strictly connected to sustainability: it is the driving force of our model.”
