It was created,” as CEO Francesco Starace explained, “in order to explain the challenges, achievements and the potential of the Enel Group’s circular transition as simply and clearly as possible.” “The Enel Group's Journey into the Circular Economy: Strategy, Projects and Results," which became available online on December 5, reports on the company’s efforts, through initiatives and projects, in the area of the circular economy. The document is divided into three sections (New business models, Raw materials and City) and outlines the various spheres of action in Enel’s circular transition, offering practical examples of technologies and projects that the Group has launched in the field of innovation.

“The circular economy is a key element for the competitiveness of a company, as it enables businesses not only to free themselves from the consumption of new non-renewable resources, but also to enhance existing goods and assets, so that they can be reused in a sustainable way.”

Francesco Starace, Enel CEO

The circular economy is a key element for the competitiveness of a company, as it enables businesses not only to free themselves from the consumption of new non-renewable resources, but also to enhance existing goods and assets, so that they can be reused in a sustainable way,” Starace said. The “journey” begins by explaining the circular economy models adopted by Enel. Subsequently, it analyzes the Group’s circular and sustainable approach to raw materials, with regard not only to forecasting needs and impacts, but also to developing and adopting innovative and circular solutions, in collaboration with its entire ecosystem. The third section details the activities undertaken by the Group to define a circular city model in collaboration with companies operating in other sectors and institutions, along with the development of new solutions and projects.

Enel’s approach to circularity is fully integrated with our decarbonization objectives and translates into concrete actions along the entire value chain, from the initial design and procurement stages to end-of-life management and the recovery of raw materials.” As Starace points out, the paper shows Enel’s commitment to implementing a circular development model that is not dependent on the consumption of resources and is capable of protecting the environment by reducing emissions and the uncontrolled exploitation of natural resources. This model helps promote the use of renewable resources and improve people’s quality of life while being economically competitive by innovating and redesigning the value chain.
